June 8, 2015, Pfofeld, Germany – It was a grueling, hot weekend for the 100 plus racers paddling in the 2015 Lost Mills International SUP Race held in the middle of the Bavarian Countryside on Lake Brombach. The Lost Mills is the core and most elite of the larger 2015 Euro SUP Tour, covering eight races in six countries in six weeks. “Fastest Paddler on Earth” sprint race, slalom race and the infamous 18.7 km Lost Mills distance race were just some of the disciplines on show this weekend.
The highlight of the event was the “Fastest Paddler on Earth” sprint race where Naish team rider, Casper Steinfath, finished in 2nd place with a time of 54 seconds. The race featured a 200-meter sprint course with each athlete battling the clock to post the fastest time. Casper describes, “The field of competition was deep, but I felt deeply in tune with my 14′ x 26 Naish Javelin LE and was stoked to come away with a 2nd place result, just seconds behind Trevor Tunnington from Australia.”
This sprint also proved to be a success for Naish team rider Manca Notar, who competed in the female race on her 12’6” Javelin in a lake full of 14 footers, and took 3rd. Manca—in the middle of her final high school exams—not anticipating competition for the next few weeks, showed her passion for racing by jumping in the car with her family and making the 10-hour car ride from Slovenia to Germany for this race. Unable to attend any of the other races, she quickly took her medal and drove all the way back home that same day.
Overall, the 2015 Lost Mills event was a challenging and rewarding event for all. Casper sums up his experience, “I love feeling the exciting energy and momentum that stand up paddling carries in Europe and I can’t wait to see what else this summer season has in store for us.”
